THE wait continues for the great Sachin Tendulkar. The whole-hearted Peter Siddle is the latest to deny him, halting the Little Master's drive for a 100th international hundred in the final over yesterday. But it was hard to cast the Victorian as the villain after he was inspired by his own setback on an afternoon of high drama.

 

Refusing to look back in anger, a charged-up Siddle thrashed over Tendulkar's pegs for 73, bringing a premature end to an exquisite innings that seemed destined to conclude with a 52nd Test century on the third day of the Boxing Day Test today. If the paceman's celebration at removing a legend was slightly muted, it wasn't because he was feeling sentimental.

 

Less than 30 minutes earlier, Siddle was gleeful at breaking through the defences of the fortress that is Rahul Dravid only for an umpire review to show the delivery was a no-ball.
